WGM Student Involvement Cabinet Member:  JOEY

Hometown: McGaheysville, Virginia

Majors: Journalism & Missions

Countries visited: United States of America, Mexico, Canada, & Peru

Position(s) held on cabinet: Asbury College Student Congress Representative

Favorite Verse: "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." Hebrews 12:2 from the Message

What do you want to be when you grew up?: I prefer to be a missionary journalist involved in some type and ministry of theatre, but more importantly, I strive to continually and completely be a person surrendered to following God and His will, no matter what.

Why did you choose to be involved with WGM?: Missions has become one of my greatest passions in life, and by serving in this position, I have enjoyed making a difference on Asbury's campus by being involved in such an incredible ministry as World Gospel Mission.

What "luxury item" would you take with you on any mission trip?: An always-charged iPod to listen to my favorite music, a never-ending supply of pencils and paper to write what I see, and all of my close friends to enjoy the experience with me.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go? Pick a destination, because I want to go and serve there, along with going and serving in all the other countries of this world.

What's the strangest thing you've ever eaten?: I almost ate Guinea Pig in Peru, but I was afraid that I might get sick after eating this "delicacy." After eating, our missions team had to endure a four-hour, bumpy car ride, so I did not want to take any chances. I regret the decision, but I will not make the same mistake twice. :)

What words of advice would you give someone who is about to depart on
their first missions experience?:
Be open and willing. God radically changed me when I first served in Mexico, and I have never been the same. If you go with an open heart and a willingness to serve in any capability, God WILL use you to be a blessing to others, and God will tremendously bless you. Trust God, have fun, and enjoy the experience!
