WGM
Student Involvement Cabinet Member: Jeri |
Member
since: 2009, My Sophomore year.
Hometown: Anderson, Ky
Major: Social Work
Countries visited: I plead the 5th... and blame that on my Mother.
Position(s) held on cabinet: The smiling face at the front door
(Greeter), attendance taker, and PR... AKA I switch the letters on the CPO
marquee every week (When I remember) :)
Favorite Verse: Gal. 5:6 "...the only thing that counts is faith
expressing itself through love."
What did you want to be when you grew up?: Everything! Teacher,
Doctor, Actress, Author, Comedian, Rock star, Scientist, and everything else
a child can possibly think of doing.
Why did you choose to be involved with WGM?: I started going to WGM
my first Semester at Asbury and it didn't take me long to realize it was my
favorite place on campus. I found myself wishing my weekend away as I
greatly anticipated the different speakers every Sunday night. I loved
leaving Global Cafe Sunday night, only to think about the stories I heard
for the rest of the week. After I found out I could apply to be on cabinet,
I was determined to do everything possible to get a position. And now here I
am a year later, still leaving every Sunday night challenged and eager to go
for myself and serve! Also the free coffee was a huge plus!
What "luxury item" would you take with you on any mission trip?:My
Snuggie. Haha. Love it!
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go? As of now
I feel that I would travel first to Africa, Kenya or Uganda. Although I
would be willing to go just about anywhere!
What's the strangest thing you've ever eaten?: Hummm, the only thing
that comes to mind is the Cafeteria's mystery meet. Bahaha.
What words of advice would you give someone who is about to depart on
their first missions experience?: Well, this is tricky, since I've never
been on a full out mission trip. I wouldn't feel right advising. However,
from hearing other missionaries talk I would take from them and say, "Go
with an open heart and mind. Allow your self to be vulnerable to God and let
Him use you in ways that stretch you, even if you're thrown into a situation
you think is impossible. Trust Him with every step you take, no matter what
the circumstances may be. Expect to come back different. And while you're
there, just take a moment from all the chaos and soak in all of God's glory
and creation." But like I said, I've never been...just my assumptions.
