Bolivia 2005 E-Journal

March 25, 2005 - Good Friday Update

Today began with us all piling into a big potato truck: our team, the church youth, and some other tag-a-longs. We brought along plastic chairs which we sat in or stood up on to see over the edge of the truck. The cold, bumpy ride into the mountains took about three hours, but what a view!

Our destination, nearly 12,000 feet above sea level, was a remote area called Pukara Grande. Upon arriving, we trekked to the location where a church is going to be built. We were able to pray with the pastor and some community leaders there who are slowly developing the site and a meeting place for this young congregation.

Then we did a VBS with about 60 children. This was the first time these kids had participated in such an activity.  For many, we were the first white faces they had ever seen (moving some to tears at the mere sight of us)! At the conclusion of our meeting they all had crafts, candy, and stickers to take home. Each child also got to choose two articles of clothing.  The clothing items were bought with some of our team’s project money.

We had brought food with us and ate lunch out on the hillside. We tried some lima beans and potatoes provided to us by our village hosts, and when it came time to pack up the truck, two large bags of potatoes came back with us to be sold in town.

We got back to “town” in time for a late supper.  Nathan and Cydil gave the Zimmermans a break by cooking spaghetti casserole for dinner.

It’s hard to believe tomorrow is our last day here!

Thanks for your prayers,

The Asbury Team
