Hello Again, Dear Friends and Family,
It’s hard to believe that Monday is
nearly over. We got a good start on working here at the
Berea Seminary, the school at which we are living this
week. We were joined today by a small crew of Bolivian
men and a handful of youth from the local church. We
enjoyed their fellowship while we assisted in moving
roofing tiles (which went up on the roof this afternoon,
though not by us!) and buckets of debris to clear way
for plastering in some unfinished classrooms. Over
lunch we enjoyed a game of volleyball in the partially
constructed gymnasium on the rear of the property. This
afternoon found us leveling ground in preparation for
pouring cement (tomorrow’s job) for a shower room.
This facility is quite large and
when it’s not offering Bible classes each semester, it’s
the site of church retreats and district conferences.
It’s quite versatile and we’re glad to do our little
part to bring its construction to completion so it can
be used to its fullest potential. The shower room we’re
building this week will bring the property one step
closer to its goal of having the ability to house large
groups for a period of time, primarily church workers
from the nearby mountain regions who will come down to
the valley (yeah, it’s 8,500 feet above sea level in
this valley) for month-long “intensives” to receive
their certificates in Bible and Theology and go back to
reach and minister to their people.
Personally we are doing well. We
applied the sunscreen liberally, but of course there are
places we missed and now feel the sting of the sun’s
burn. If we weren’t tired from today’s work, we’ll
surely sleep well after this evening’s game of
basketball with the church youth.
TOMORROW… brings more work during
the day, then we head up the mountains a short way to
participate in a youth outreach during the evening.
We’re still not exactly sure what our responsibilities
will be in this evangelistic event, but we’re excited at
the prospects as it’s going to be done in conjunction
with the youth from the host church. I don’t know that
we’ll get back in time to send an update tomorrow
night. Wednesday will be our day of programs for the
250 kids at the local Compassion International Center so
pray for that too! They don’t get to see “Gringos” very
often (like once a year) so we’ve been told to be
prepared for lots of lovin’ from these kids!
We’ve gotta close. Hope you enjoy
the photos. I think they’re pretty self explanatory
except for the one of Dan… he’s holding the son of one
of the fellows we worked with today. He’s holding the
baby in the way the mamas hold their little one’s here
when they’re out and about. It’s handy! They’re close
by and your hands are free to work!
Love you all! Hope you’re doing
well!
