Our first two days in Hungary were spent on a whirlwind tour of Budapest.
A city of approximately 2 million people, Budapest could take months to explore,
but the Johnson and Searl's "Travel Agency" helped to pack a lot into
two days.
Our time in Budapest gave us a taste of the rich history of
the Hungary much like a tour of Washington D.C. would for the United
States. Some of the buildings downtown are still scared from the country's
1956 rebellion against communism. This rebellion was the first crack in
the Soviet machine. We also learned of King Stephen who was crowned king
of Hungary by the Pope in 1000 making Hungary a "Christian Nation."
Along with our history lessons, we paused to eat some
wonderful food and shop in some pretty cool places (like an old train station
turned into a market and gallery of individual folk-art booths). |
