Dear
Friends and Family,
As you might guess from the
picture below, today we
celebrated Nathan’s 30th
birthday down here in PNG.
We spent the morning at the
Bennett’s, finalizing the
plans for our youth camp. We
practiced the skits and ran
over sermon ideas as we
prepared for tomorrow. For
lunch, the Bennetts took us
out to eat at the Highlander
Hotel, where we ate
underneath grass tiki hut
umbrellas.
Our original plans called
for an afternoon hike to a
waterfall and swimming hole
outside of town (to surprise
Nathan on his birthday), but
the overcast afternoon
resulted in a day of rest
and spending time with the
Bennetts. It was a welcome
break from the heat and work
as we played games with
Bethany, napped, played with
the kittens and just
relaxed.
Tonight, we had the unique
experience of watching the
Princess Bride,
on a big screen in the
Bennett’s carport in the
rain, using a projector
powered by a generator. (I
had the unique experience of
turning on the lights after
the movie to find a very
large cockroach in the bowl
of popcorn out of which I
had been eating. It was true
mission trip experience.)
While today was mostly a day
of rest, our team will be
back in full force tomorrow.
We will teach in the
morning, work some more on
the latrine, finish up the
last of the landscaping, and
start our youth camp
tomorrow afternoon.
Please pray for our team as
we tackle the tasks ahead.
Our teaching tomorrow will
deal with some pretty tough
issues and we pray for God’s
wisdom as Nathan and Mark
talk to the men about loving
their wives as Christ loves
the church. (This is a
concept not widely embraced
in this culture.) At the
same time, Meg will be
talking to the women of the
Bible college about being a
Proverbs 31 woman (These
teaching times will be
taking place between 7-9:00
PM EST on Tuesday). Please
pray for us as we start our
youth camp, that our
messages will be
well-received and lives will
be changed. We also ask that
you keep Diane Bennett in
your prayers. This morning
the doctor diagnosed her
with bronchitis—she has been
pretty sick the last few
days.
Our day tomorrow will be
pretty full, so you can look
forward to an interesting
update. Thanks for your all
your love and support,
Lisette
